"THE CONTRADICTION OF TIME" is a photo book I created during the summer semester in 2021 at FH Aachen and it represents the contrasting elements of the past, present and future that can be found in buildings and architecture in my home town Skopje. These buildings, statues and constructions originate from different times and represent different styles, that often have little or nothing to do with Macedonian tradition and history, therefore being contradictory to the times we used to live and live in currently. New modern buildings are built next to old ruins. A new country built off of old stones.
The Process
The images were taken in both Macedonia and Germany during the summer semester 2021. They are black & white in order to bring more focus into the texture and composition itself. It also gives them a more timeless look, since they seem like they could've be taken 20 years ago. In order to contradict the black & white content in the book, I have added an image with neon colors on the cover, taken with long exposure. Twenty books were printed, cut out and assembled by me and my father. Copies are still available.
The Exhibition
Because of the pandemic, this semester's exhibition took place in the form of a Showcase Exhibition (Schaufenster Ausstellung), where people passing by the center of Aachen could come by and look
at the photography projects, read more about them and view them on the website.
